NACS Authorized Clinical Sexologist

Clinical sexological work should be understood as face-to-face contact with clients and patients to treat and provide ongoing care for individuals with sexological issues, to help them achieve better sexual health and understanding of their gender and sexual identities from a bio-psycho-social point of view. Clinical sexological work should aim to help the individual in understanding themselves and their life holistically. Sexologists are specialists in the field of sexual health and their work with patients can improve quality of life significantly.

Academic Qualifications for NACS Authorized Clinical Sexologists

The applicant needs to complete and must document a minimum of a bachelors in Social and Health studies (180 ECTS).

Sexological Education

The applicant needs to complete and must document a minimum of 60 ECTS from an sexological educational program.

Clinical Sexological Practice

The applicant needs to complete and must document a minimum of 300 hours of clinical sexological work. The clinical sexological work needs to be completed within 5 years.

Professional Supervision

The applicant needs to complete and must document a minimum of 100 hours of professional supervision in a group setting or 60 hours of individual professional supervision. There is no time frame to complete the minimum hours of professional supervision.

Sexual Self Acknowledgement - SSA/SAR

The applicant needs to complete and must document a minimum of 25 hours of SSA/SAR, where 5 of these hours can be completed individually. We highly recommend all practicing sexologist to obtain more hours of SSA/SAR that the minimum.

Formal Criterias

- The applicant requires a Letter of Recommendation from their professional supervisor.

- The applicant must pay a Application Fee to their national association.

- The applicant must provide documentation of their membership to their national association for a minimum of the last 2 years.

Ethical Principles

The applicant must recognize the Ethical Prinicples of The World Association for Sexual Health (WAS) and apply and uphold these principles in their work.
